Liverpool Tower Blocks

The viewing tower was in rupert lane park. When I was a little squirt I used to play in there. On the slide at the top you could look into the police station in Everton Terrace.

The new church that you mentioned is the more modern version of the peoples church which used to be situated in Kerford Street, originally calledEverton Village Welsh Baptist Chapel. I went there once or twice as a squirt and had my first day out away from home with the Sunday School there. I haven,t a clue where we went but there were fields and greenery and we went on a charabanc.

Thanks Ged for the referal to your site. There are two photos by Joe Devine that I know a mate would be interested in of Roscommon Street. What are the chances of downloading them or getting copies of them?

I remember the flats TerryB and Ged. They were just a small block of about 6 or 8 individual flats. Not sure whether there was only one or two blocks though

If my memory serves me right there was a Presbyterian Church next to it on the corner, years before, but was demolished in the 50s

I can't remember those flats either ,there is a church now on the site but its set back a bit

Marwood Tower and surrounding area.

Belem Tower seems to be empty...the entrance is fenced off and some floors boarded up.

Heysmoor Heights, Croxteth Road/Sefton Park Road appears in tonights Homes supplement in the Liverpool Echo. The article goes on about stunning views etc. This tower-block was on fire recently. Have a look at the floor about 3/4 the way up...you can see evidence of the fire around the windows.

Morning Mandy, the photo from the book is Cresswell Mount, my flat was top left. It didn,t have a club at the bottom but the first flats you put up did. They are two separate blocks. If you want pistols at dawn see my mam

I used to live in creswell mount briefly before moving to st georges heights , lived there for about15 years and i loved the flats i lived in there 4 of them in all .Used to go to the heyworth street school when it was a college for city and guilds apprentices as well just prior to that happy days .I loved my old st georges heights flats and if they hadnt pulled them down i think i would still be there .My cousin now lives in view 146 in one of the wooshty penthouse suites , just my luck to miss out on the timing of living in the area it goes from rich to poor and back again ! .I moved into the heights around winter 1982 and lived o nthe 10th 14th 15th and 13 th floors over the years ,had some good neighbours there and spectacular views everywhere awesome sunsets across the mersey .Fairy street was in between creswell and st georges , 3 storey flats there . opposite the braddocks .

A view from Marwood Tower which still stands near the triangle at the end of Greaty. Looking East, the first high rise seen is Medea Tower, then Crete and Candia which lie behind (now Freedom Heights). Rock View is the furthest from view up near Torr Street. Corinth Tower is the big white high rise to the right which stood until fairly recently off Anderson Street. As you can see there were a lot of 1950s three high flats and 60s four high maisonettes strewn all over this area.
