I know you don't agree with this Ged .. but it does make you think.
I was in Bridgnorth last night for a mate's retirement do - at a Wetherspoons. There isn't one near to where I live so don't think I've been in one before. The prices were amazing - don't see how other pubs can compete so together with all the other reasons why pubs are closing down, the situation isn't that surprising. Walking back to our hotel we passed 6 other pubs - all but one were very quiet.

I can't see the pubs recovering, cept in the town centres. The rot has set in. I don't think it's got much to do with the smoking ban, but it aint helped, it's more attitudes now. It just seems better to have some friends round for a drink these days.

That's right Joe and changing trends. I think the ciggy law clouds the issue Lindy - pardon the pun. It is a convenient excuse but I personally don't know anybody that doesn't go out drinking now that did before due to a ban, especially when most places have catered for the ban by building outdoor areas.

My girls and their mates have more and more 'sit offs' until midnight what with clubs staying open until it's nearly daylight - and that's the winter.

Cheap bargain booze shops opening up everywhere and the supermarkets.

There's quite a few such as the Granton and Salisbury in Anfield that have closed and will be bulldozed because of the clearance programme - OI doubt these will be replaced - it's all city centre newbies now.

There are a couple of pubs being done up and reopened, but nowhere near as many that are shutting down. Same thing happened to the garages, they seem to be going fast.

The Pitch Pine, Stanley Road, Kirkdale.
A post war replacement for the one that Hitler took out.
Inside is unaltered, quite a rarity.

Cool pics, Sirob. I've been past that place on the bus so many times and expected it to be really dirty inside.

GD. Nice pics, as always. U're starting to look like a alchy with a travel pass
