Hi all,
I guess my flickr page could be of some interest here:
Liverpool Tower Blocks - a set on Flickr
div>
Feel free to ask about anything here
Now, of note in there particularly is Mere Bank Heights. It is one of seven located in about a 15 minute walk (Heysmoor Heights is the other isolated one) and there are 5 just down the road on Croxteth Drive. Now Heysmoor + those 5 have 'regular' bricks while Mere Bank has white bricks.
While that probably means nothing to a lot, I've noticed it with this style block elsewhere. In Kirkdale, there were 5 blocks of this style, 3 together called Ellison, Edinburgh and Seacombe Towers, they were on Everton Valley and were demolished a few years ago. There is one that is on its own, Marwood Tower, which is on Boundary Street East and there was one by Notre Dam school, Rock View (I think). Rock View also had white bricks while the rest had the 'regular' bricks, I still haven't found a close up of this block unfortunately.
And finally, before my time this so its just guess work. In Toxteth (Dingle, L8 anyway) there were a few blocks. Mill View (which still stands and is a completely different style, Sandside View and Grafton Heights which were of the style of the aforementioned Mere Bank etc. I think there was one of this style on Warwick Street to but there are no closeup photos of any of these blocks either, like Rock View. Grafton Heights also has this white brick while the other has normal bricks.
So what I want to know is, was the white brick blocks built for any specific reason? It seems strange to have one in a different colour brick to the rest.
Also does anyone else have any pics of Grafton Heights, Sandside View, Rock View and even Mill View before it got double glazed.
Thanks
