the beatles way back when were very off the cuff and had that whole witty sarcasm thing going (that us scousers do so well!) they were young, talented,in demand & enjoying the ride but they weren't smug or arrogant not then anyway though that may have come later for some of them...

Wasn't "We're more popular than Christ",
