first off, apols for the reddish tint on some, got new camera today and had colour set wrong to start with. zoom is great, but doesn't cope with dull weather as well as my old one did.

    Nelson Street.
There's a story behind that 1887 date, which first appeared a couple of years ago when a new roof was put on the building.
Joseph Sharples has proved that the building was built about 1857, as a factory.
Langdon's, who made tents, etc., took the building over about 1887, but the front is still as it was in the 1850s.
Europleasure took over Langdons in the 1980s and closed the building a few years later.

aye, I've changed the settings so pictures are looking a lot better. it's not as good in dull weather as my Lumix was. it's a swine for batteries though but with the better zoom beggars can't be choosers.

Anybody know why there are 2 dates on the clock tower of Liverpool Uni
the building is down in books as being built in 1887 but what does 1837 signify. I only noticed this while enlarging a part of a photo.

1837 to 1887 is the 50th Anniversary of Victoria's reign.

The building took place between 1889 and 1892.

The "Annals of Liverpool" confirm it opened in 1892.
Victoria Buildings, Victoria College, The University, Brownlow Hill.
Opened 17 December 1892. Architect: Alfred Waterhouse.
