Those festivals are in the areas those people live. We don't have an Irish quarter.
If there is an Irish quarter and they want to have a Chicago Irish St. Patrick's Day parade then let them - they organise it as the Chinese do. We don't have an Irish quarter and city should not organise an Irish festival either. But seriously why shouldn't there be an Irish festival? No one is saying that the Irish are the predominant ethnic background of all Scousers but there is every reason to celebrate Irish culture and remember the tragic elelments of it.
Commemorating the famine is a very different thing indeed.
If you want Irish history go to Dublin - they will tell you. The famine and the city's role in it, yes of course - but no Irish parades. that is for the Irish to do. And as we don't have many I don't see it happening.Afterall there is a slavery museum at the Albert Dock, I would like to see a museum on Scotland road about Irish history.
If the city has a day for the Irish we should have one for the Welsh too.
