Yes, I thought I would photograph it because I had the feeling that the school would end up being demolished. It seemed like it was falling into disrepair. Ended up being destroyed by arsonists though.
Yeah, I'm still working on the book thanks. In the library now researching some of it:)

When I last watched the Man from the Pru, I decided to take a walk around the area concerned one evening, Wolverton st, The triangle, past the church and it was magical and atmosperic to think it was retracing the footsteps of such a famous case and you could imagine the tram scenes of long ago.

Yes, I'm the same. Whenever I walk around the area I try to imagine what it must have been like. Wish ITV would give that docu-drama Who Killed Julia Wallace? another screening. They actually used the locations. Haven't seen it for many years though :sad:
I,d be interested in seeing that film Mark, not sure if I,ve seen it in the past, but that area was my stomping ground for a few years, and I too retraced Mr Wallace,s steps a few times. I,m of the mind that he didn,t do it but I don,t know. :ninja:

Yes, I'm not convinced Wallace committed the murder. The more I find out about it the less I'm convinced. That film was made by Yorkshire Television. It was aired late October 1975. I'm sure it was repeated sometime in the early 80's. The actor who portrayed Wallace was Eric Longworth (it was his debut as an actor I believe). He also went on to appear in Dad's Army and Coronation Street. It was really good though I didn't agree with the verdict.

Maybrick's grave is in a pitiful state.

Believe me it is heavy!! I once held it up (onto the bottom half of the stone) whilst a friend took a photo (I was trying to conceal myself behind the stone, stooping down!!). I was shouting to her to hurry up!!

Thanks as well, Mark, for posting the image of the Wallace grave. It is a wierd situation for them to be buried together if Wallace in fact did to the murder. Here in the U.S. there is the case of a convicted and later executed murderer, William Udderzook, who asked though to be buried with the man he had murdered in 1873, Winfield Scott Goss.

Yes that's right. Not sure exactly when it was though they first heard about the murder. It wasn't covered in the next morning's Daily Post & Mercury. It did make the Evening Express and Liverpool Echo though.

There are very few of the original old neighbours remaining in Wolverton st. I can think of only 2 still there from when I was growing up in the street. (they will be in the 60s and 70s age group). Over the years older ones have died or some have moved.
Mostly there are a lot of new young families who have moved in and don't know a lot about the Wallace case. Some have never heard of it.
Mark as you know there are many families in Anfield who have been here for generations - people like your family and mine - our mothers and grandmothers who knew everyone.
There can't be many left now from the Wallace era, - people who were old enough to have been around when the case was on - they are long gone now unless they are in their 90s !! :) or even older - the ones born in early 1900's ! My grandmother would have been over 100 if she was still alive !!
but it would be interesting if any remaining elderly Anfielders (perhaps the ones who are in their 70s or 80s now) could tell any stories about what they might have been told.
We had an elderly uncle in our family who was an insurance man during that era, and he remembered Wallace.
My grandmother actually had spoken to Wallace when she went to the house to pay some insurance money. but no one ever knew enough to add any more information to what the police already knew.
When I grew up in Wolverton st there were some elderly neighbours who were old enough and from the Wallace generation - but none of them could throw any more light on the matter.
