My uncle worked at Ogdens as an accountant from after the war until the early 60's when he became a teacher.
Since this was before the days of computers, he could do large arithmetic in his head.
Now in his late 70's he can still do sums with 10 and 12 digit numbers in his head. When I was a kid we would do the same sums longhand to check him.... he never made a mistake and it took us many minutes...
When I was at university, I spent one summer working at the British America Tobacco Co. on the Dock Rd.

It had an incredible class system for the lunch rooms - and even the toilets.

We students had to go everywhere to inventory equipment, so we got Middle Management privileges, and we were not searched as we left, unlike the "lower classes".
My smoking co-workers managed to stock up for their next term or two at university...
Did the BAT factory become luxury apartments??
I seem to remember it was a bit North of the present Costco site.
