Walked past the Richmond pub this morning and was surprised to see it boarded up.

Also, the Clubmoor pub which I posted a pic on this thread (page 14) is also now boarded up.

What is happening to all our locals ??
Dont surprise me about the Richmond, that place never even got a crowd in for the match. Always had a dodgy air about it IMO. I see the First Base was gutted by fire last week, just days after re-opening under a new licensee.

If you go in the bar at the lowest end of the street and look up at that ornate ceiling, my mate and I painted that in 1979 when the building was being refurbished. There were 30 of us on a YTS - around 3 or 4 of us assigned to a particular tradesman and then we'd switch every few weeks. We knocked down walls, burnt paint off old doors, helped repair the roof, worked with the electrician, the plumber, on the Kango drill etc until it came to a sudden halt when we were all finished up because rumour had it that the bosses were claiming for more workers than were actually there but it was a good 6 months, we spent most of our time in the gallery and in that room with the ceiling up a mobile scaffolding which incidentally had no wheels so we had to pull it around, scraping the lovely mosaic floor and when we did under the archways we had to take a layer off the scaffolding.

That Empire pub (thanks Phil) was where my mates and I would get served after the towel was on every time we went there. The Irish barmaid used to like the cut of me jib or something. That used to be our last watering hole before going down to the pier head to have a cup of soup at the all night cafe before we got our various buses home. Sweet memories

Gedrick, some people thought me quite attractive in my younger days lah.
with me tight Wranglers and mint coloured Ben Shirtman, and long hair.

Why even the barman in Maxwell,s Plumb would look out for me on a Saturday night and had my round of drinks on the bar before I ever reached it. My mates did take the P***.

Yes Mark, as you can see Maxwell,s Plumb was one of mine as well.

    Default aroundandaround

that was at christmas time and I had to lock up the clinic in the hospital. Went from West Derby road to Canny Farm, back to the Pier Head, then back to Canny Farm. The driver said he,d let me sleep it off for a bit before he awakened me. Had an armful of prezzies too.

Had to go back the next morning to work to check I,d locked the clinic up and put the alarms on...on Christmas Day....
