The story behind Eldon Grove is a scandal mate. Don't take this as gospel, but it's more right than wrong. George is a local lad and had been trying to buy them off the Council for a couple of years. They were in a right state by then. Around 2001 or 2002 (this is where I'm a little usnsure with the dates), they agreed to sell to him. All the contracts were signed, but they still messed him about and he had to go through the whole of winter before the block was handed to him. During the winter, a load of slates were nicked off the roof and the water damage to the building came to tens of thousands of pounds. He demanded a refund off the Council due to them being obstructive. They didn't want to know, so to cut a long story short, it got as far as the House of Lords and the Council were ordered to compensate him.
