Though you could well get your blood pressure up at what is actually 'left' of the building after much neglect. Liverpool will one day end up with fantastic looking buildings which only the facade is left, first of all Liverpool Collegiate Institution and now this. 100 years from now, the Anglican Cathedral will be part indoor skateboard and part wall climbing venue

Yes Cad, it's sad that people will see only the facade and think i'd love to live in something like that only to find every internal feature will only be that of the 21st century.

Great pic's Ged! I remember when the church was still in use,in the early 70's,when I had a flat round the corner. Whatever you think of the remains of the building...at least it's survived,which in itself is a surprise, to me,at least!

I'm not sure - would you want to live in a house with 18th century plumbing and electricity? Err - probably was built without electricty - make that a place with gas lamps and sooty ceilings...

And that doesn't even mention the smoke generated from old coal fireplaces smoking out your neighbours.

Sometimes modern stuff in your home is good...

I mean architectural features such as spacious rooms, high ceilings, dado, friezes, ceiling roses etc. They look like little match boxes going inside to me, but still, as is said, better the shell staying up than nothing. I wouldn't expect the poor students to be lighting gas mantles

I am beginning to be persuaded that old buildings should be allowed to die gracefully instead of being kept as a shell for modern interiors.

You have a point there Joe, especially with stand-alone structures. There are a number of Georgian Terraces around here, I live in one such crescent. Their interiors do not match the exteriors, but they make for a very pleasant vista down the streets. With such houses too it is easier to retain cornices and roses.

Most people never see the interior of buildings that look fantastic from the outside so I don't really care what they look like on the inside as long as their exterior gives me a sense of place and is aesthetically pleasing.

I'm slightly p***ed off when former public buildings get this treatment (like this one) but if the choice is between that and another glass box with oddly shaped windows in its place then I think I can live with it!
