I remember Luxtons on Smithdown Road near Greenbank, it was always open and still there today, I think. I also remember Axelrods further up Smithdown passed Borrowdale Road opposite Hattons. Axelrods was run by a Jewish family who closed the shop on Saturdays and was the only shop open on Sundays. I think there was a joke shop near there as well where I used to spend all my pocket money.
