    I heard on the Grapevine only this week that the Merton was going to become a Wetherspoon pub. To be honest, I found this a little hard to believe.

    Perhaps J.D. Wetherspoon are going to build a new pub on the site?

    Seems to be unusual timing though if they are - considering the recession and all that...

    I don't think the Pier Hotel near Hamilton Square station featured in a couple of the photographs has ever opened since the structure was rebuilt as part of an office block in the 1980s! it has just been an empty shell.
