I have done this on many a photo on various websites and use the following:
"Except where an author or owner is named or an item is in the public domain or its provenance has been impossible to ascertain, this web site and material contained in this web site are copyright of.......

It basically means that if you cannot find the original source of the photo, you are displaying it until the original owner comes along and asks for credit or removal of the picture.
You're entitled to disagree, but I don't want Kev to get sued.
I repeat.
Ask permission if you know who owns the photo.
If you don't know who owns it, don't use it,
because somebody will own the copyright.
Otherwise, it's theft.
I know I've made at least one person not like me by stating this before.
But if something isn't yours you can't give it to somebody else.
Even if it's a fabulous photo.
If it's on the net post a link to it.
