thanks ged-good news for that building then. Whats it going to be? sometimes they say they are doing it up tho and they take so long that it goes to rack and ruin in the process and then they use the land to develop some new cardboardy houses. Hope that does not happen here-fingers crossed.

As its grand national week here's a few pics of Aintree. The first is Aintree ''sefton arms'', no date but electric rails suggest sometime around 1906. The next Aintree again, (now with a roof over the Liverpool platform), in 1913. A race day train from the overhead rly is seen in 1956, the last year these trains ran to Aintree. The next is a very simple Aintree racecourse station on Warbreck moor. this was just a single platform covered in cinders, with single line working on the day. The last is the orient express stock on a race special in 1986

Some smashing pics while I've been away. Thanks to all for sharing them, - what this forum is for!

Garston shore on the 2 nd December 1979. shipbreaking was done here and the present line up is especially poignant as it includes Salvor and Vigilant, which I remember at the Landing Stage. Now, beached like whales, waiting only for the hot bite of the cutters torch, they will soon be history!

As it's coming up to Grand National Day, lots of people went from Liverpool Exchange station. these pics were taken on 9 April 1977, including an enthusiasts special, marking the closure.

    Welcome back, Sirob.
Even the buildings in the background have gone!
It's so good to have photos as a reminder.

(It was a real pleasure to meet you.)

Welcome back sirob great photos again. Dont know if anyone has seen this site http://www.etraction.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/gallery.htm His models of the merseyrail 502's look spot on. I also hope he shows his model of exchange sta at local model rail shows when its finished, if the roof is anything to go by it should be superb. There is also a link to the class 502 site. http://www.hamptonweb.myby.co.uk/class502/ What a shame it has been left to rot like this. it may be mundane, but it is a piece of merseysides history. It should be restored & brought home.

Merseywail, what a shame about the 502. It should be local, except where would you keep it??????
Glad to have you back, Philip G
    When I was a child, the most exciting thing to look forward to was a visit to the park, or the shore;

The cuckoo clock, Stanley Park, 1961
Slide, (dig the pram!!!) Stanley Park, 1961
Swings, Whitfield Road, (Rice Lane Rec) 1959
Crosby shore, wartime anti aircraft obstructions still there, 1958

I think the best place for the 502 would be the new museum of liverpool life at mann island, along side the overhead coach & the L&M loco Lion. We also could have had a coach from the Mersey railway, but sadly it was destroyed in a fire at derby works. Even if it was put in the large object store, at least it would be safe.

Smashing photos of Stanley park Sirob. My nan used to take me to look at that floral clock when I was little. It's still there but not as elaborate. The cuckoo clock stopped many years ago.
It's a shame when you think how things have to change .. and sometimes not for the better. It used to be a magical atmosphere in that flower garden, especially when you heard the cuckoo .. you couldn't have that now - due to vandalism - imagine it with the hoodies these days

You railway enthusiasts must get to the railway exhibition at Archbishop Blanch school in May. Mike Delamar who comes on here has a cracking Crown st layout and there will be a massive Lime st layout too from a certain period of time showing buildings and traffic too. I'll be there on the sat.

Some more race day scenes, the first is a war time view on 6 Apr 1940. No date for the next one, but my guess is mid 30's The last shows trams during layover time awaiting the home time crowds, late 40's?
