quincyg, I think these kinds of comparison photos ( Then and Now ) are superb. Not a lot has changed on the buildings ( apart from the few houses in the middle missing ! ) but it's just so hard to imagine a horse and carriage on the corner of the road now and a tram trundling along.
Seeing both photo's together makes me want to jump into my DeLorean and hitting 88, going back to the time in your old photo and seeing it for real.

The Bridge rd 55a bus one you took and this one quincyg, you've got the angles just right - great, well done.

More bus pics. The first two show the end of the line for Litherland tram/bus depot. The third is a corpy bus heading down march lane Bootle, with the gas works to the left. No four is a ribble bus in lime street, note the merseyrail building works next to st Georges hall, they would never allow that now. And last a corpy bus on Dale street.

indeed and the old Echo van at the back.
nice to see the bus terminus where Somerfield is now. I moved up here after that had been demolished so had never seen it. cheers

Those last 2 bring back great memories - well done. I well remember those boards around the south end of the Geoges Hall circa 77 and on the last one you can see Gerard Close and Gerard Crescent in the background. The Stockwell Mount on the first one has not long returned to that original name having been Ma Kents for quite a while.

I'd use my handclap smilie if it was working.

its a shame about that old beautiful building without its spire-are they really going to demolish it? Well i suppose its just too far gone to fix now???? Or that is what they will say-and too dangerous to keep standing and no money to fix it. Its still a crying shame-it upsets me-but its happening all over the place. In my home town they do the same-wether people make a fuss or not..........sigh

thanks ged-good news for that building then. Whats it going to be? sometimes they say they are doing it up tho and they take so long that it goes to rack and ruin in the process and then they use the land to develop some new cardboardy houses. Hope that does not happen here-fingers crossed.

As its grand national week here's a few pics of Aintree. The first is Aintree ''sefton arms'', no date but electric rails suggest sometime around 1906. The next Aintree again, (now with a roof over the Liverpool platform), in 1913. A race day train from the overhead rly is seen in 1956, the last year these trains ran to Aintree. The next is a very simple Aintree racecourse station on Warbreck moor. this was just a single platform covered in cinders, with single line working on the day. The last is the orient express stock on a race special in 1986

Some smashing pics while I've been away. Thanks to all for sharing them, - what this forum is for!

Garston shore on the 2 nd December 1979. shipbreaking was done here and the present line up is especially poignant as it includes Salvor and Vigilant, which I remember at the Landing Stage. Now, beached like whales, waiting only for the hot bite of the cutters torch, they will soon be history!

    Default Unseen Liverpool

As it's coming up to Grand National Day, lots of people went from Liverpool Exchange station. these pics were taken on 9 April 1977, including an enthusiasts special, marking the closure.

    Welcome back, Sirob.
Even the buildings in the background have gone!
It's so good to have photos as a reminder.

(It was a real pleasure to meet you.)
