one thing baffles me about that Ribble pic. if that's the sausage works then the bus is going the wrong way for it to be Linacre Rd. if it was Linacre the bus would be city bound surely?
I think it's maybe Bridge Rd? The road to the right that the saus works is on would be Linacre Rd. Behind the bus would lead up to the Red Lion pub and the old lift bridge over the canal.
unless someone who knows the bus route from back then can confirm which way the bus went.

OOPS! You are quite right . looking at a map the bus is on bridge rd heading for netherton . This must be after the opening of princess way, it would have turned up past the lift bridge before then. The caption on the back of the photo says linacre rd. must remember to double check next time

it's alright. I moved here after the saus works so wouldn't have recognised it anyway. it was the bus destination board that got me thinking.

I've printed off a faint version of the pic so I can get as close as I can to where the original was taken.

roughly the same view of Bridge Rd today. Scott house ,saus works and some of the houses on the left have gone.



there are a lot of double deckers on the 55B so I thought I'd wait for it so it was closer to original photo, time I was there single decker turned up...typical. the 55A is only peak time anyway.

The Poplar St. photo is interesting to me as I am currently working on a family in our tree who married a girl out of Poplar Street many years ago. The two parents are now dead but their children fill the streets. (well it was a large family) and that photo will have some happy memories for some of those kids.

yes going on the angle I'd say it is the one by Broadway rather than Walton Hall Ave.

The Walton Vale pic I instantly recognised by the building on the left.It's still there today,a jewellers I think.
The Broadway picture is really good.I used to play around there as kid.The shops would be to the right.

Alexandra Dock Goods station on 6 th October, 1970. The level crossing was being re-laid in a wider curve, to allow modern traffic to the new Seaforth terminal.
On 26 th June 1971, the Queen opened the 2nd Mersey Tunnel. Her exit point from the Royal train at Lime Street and Her leaving the station.

Sirob...you view of Everton Valley from a few pages back is amazing! The amount of time's I've been through that junction, not realising what it was like 30 years previously is unbelievable!

In spring, 1970 I visited Woodhams scrapyard at Barry, South wales. Since 1965, the firm had bought British Railways steam engines, but found it more profitable to break up wagons. There was over 200 mouldering away, amongst them a "Jinty" from Edge Hill. Does anyone remember it in happier times?

Sirob i think you should really look to local book publishers, your photographs are a real goldmine that should be shared with the wider public, & make yourself a few bob. I have been collecting prints & cards for 20 years now & have never seen such superb work! Unfortunately for me about 95% of my collection is of local bus, train or tram, photos so probably of little interest to publishers
