Liverpool's Original Seven Streets

I always remembered being told at school that the official address of most (if not all) Town Halls was 1 High Street.
Was anybody else ever told this?

I don't recall being told that when I was in school in Liverpool. I do know that "High Street" is a common name for the main street in English towns. The American equivalent is "Main Street."
