    Great photos, Lindy.

They all seem in good condition.
In South Liverpool, so many have been closed down, and quite a few demolished recently.

But that is sad to see as it really was what you could call a "Back Street Pub".
Just had a look but to no avail. I am sure I took more images of that area when I went! Oh Well.

How long has "The Dryden" on Edge Lane been boarded up? It's not going to get demolished is it? Surely not! It's too good a building to waste all becuase the Council want's to generate a possible 'false image' on the city. It will be a sad day if and when it goes for good.

It's on the corner of Royston Street and Dorothy Street. I was there a few weeks ago when walking from Edge Lane down to Wavertree Road.

One thing I've noticed about a lot of pubs is the lack of good pub-signs. A lot just opt for the name of the pub on a cheap wooden plaque.
Re: The Royston...I think one side of the sign was burned, but the other was still visible.

    Default Images 800x600. Enjoy!

A few pubs from the Vauxhall area of our great city (all images taken on 19FEB07)...

The Crown Vaults, Kirkdale Road This pub got a new roof and new windows a year or so ago but nothing has happened yet on the ground floor. I don't know if we are going to see a grand opening or not of this pub but it's good to see it in beteer shape than it previously was. Just out of interest, wasn't there a 60's midrise office block to the right where those 1990's apartments are now? I remember something like a grey 60's block being here when I was small.

Top of Scottie Wasn't this a pub up untill a few years ago? I can't for the life of me remember what it's name was which is bad seeing as I've been past it goodness knows how many times in the past! Hopefully, the building firm will keep this rather grand building in good sahpe. That stone detailing can't be cheap to replace!

Site of The Hamlet, Scottie This was pulled down a few months ago sadly after a period of dereliction. Another pub along Scottie Road has bitten the dust.

The Cunard, Stanley Road This pub is still open for business; it's shut here because this image was taken 0954! I think even by my standards, 10:00 is a little early!

The Stanley Bar, Stanley Road/Gt Mersey Street The pub sign here is actually tiled which is unuseral. This does however show how confident the original owners were seeing as they thought their pub would always be called "The Stanley Bar". Again, it looks as if some work has been done on the building but it is debateable as to wheather a Pint will be served there in the future. I think this image is repeated on many other street corners across the city. The pub was once the centre of the community (apart from the churches) but when those communities got swept away or forced out, the pub population started to deplete. Scottie is a good example of this as it has gone from having "a pub on every corner" to a handfull.

The Prince of Wales, Stanley Road This is truely a gem of a building! Just look at all that detailing around and between the windows. The brick and the stine have aged gracefully to produce a building which adds so much character to this part of the city. You don't get such quality any where else and is something which I miss when I am away from Liverpool. People don't appreciate what they have got any more. I say, look up from the pavement and appreciate your surroundings. You never know when you might not see things like this again!

The Prince of Wales, Stanley Road I love this building so much, here's a close up. I think that it might need a little bit of repair work but on the whole, it's a good building.

The Easby, Easby Street One for Max here, this pub sign has been recycled as doubt that this building has been dserving fine ales since 1762! Beneath the paint (when viewing the orginal) I could pcik put that it was a ale company who orginally made the sign but the owners of "The Easby" painted over it all an made a cheap pub sign. This is now defunct and boarded up.

The Saddle Inn, Fountains Road/Sessions Road An updated view of the Saddle for Chris George. It's an interesting building when you get down and look at it as the taller part looks aolder than the red brick lower floors which appear to have been added on at a later date. It you notice, the taller part of the building is a light brown brick where as the facarde is red pressed brick. This could possibly date the older part of the building to date from before the industrialisation of Vauxhall/Kirkdale took hold in the 1850's onward. So it is likely that the brown brick building would have stood in isolation next to a little lane linking Everton Village to Kirkdale or something like that. Now, the building is more or less back to standing in a isolated position with no buildings around it.

The Kendal, Westminister Road Finally, a nice round building which stands on the corner of Fountains Road and Westminister Road and is just a little bit up from the Saddle Inn.

Hope you enjoyed these images, they will be up on Flickr soon, there are 68 more images like this which all need descriptions writing for them!

Great pics, I drive past those pubs most days, shame to see so many out of use now. I've never seen that Cunard open, does it just open at evenings? It was shut about 2pm today although I have seen people come and go from it who I assume live above.
