Hi all
This conversation about the paternoster lift at M&S, which I don't remember, reminded me of the lift at the old James Street Station which I recall from when I was child. As I remember, it was a large lift taking as many as maybe thirty or forty people. Of course I was quite small back then so it may have seemed larger than it actually was. I remember the lift was on the scary side as you descended down into the depths. I also disliked the train stopping or going slow through the tunnel under the Mersey, a sensation I have even today on trains here in the United States when a train stops or goes slow through a long tunnel.

Hi Chris, there are 3 lifts now all the same size, with only 2 working at any time. I use this station quite a lot on my rambles and still get confused while trying to get to the northern
line for Kirkby, with so many passage ways and staircases when you leave the lifts. I nearly.
always end up on the Wirral platform again after coming from there
I am thinking of putting my own signs on the walls to help me
