Thread: Old photos

    Default Old photos

I recently found a few old family photos. There are a few of me, one of them is this one. I reckon I was probably less than two, but might have been older? Funny thing is that, perhaps because being photographed was such a rarity, I can actually remember this incident and its one of my earliest memories. We lived in Linkside (Woolton) and I was helping clean the panes in the back door. I remember thinking it would be more efficient if I stood in the bucket, and then not understanding why I was being laughed at because of this. Obviously it was funny enough for someone to get a camera out.

Does anyone know how to improve the quality of the photo? It's faded so it looks almost like a negative. Any suggestions appreciated. I've got a basic version of photoshop but that doesn't seem to do much to it.

I've found loads of old negatives as well - does anyone know a cheap way of getting those onto my computer? Do I need to get them developed at a photo place like Boots?

Another that is a bit ****ed up, assume it's one of my Dad's as they are the only ones in the box. But I keep seeing this view in old photos, and I wonder if it was a common view for amatuer photographers in the 1950s, a bit the way nowadays people take pictures of the Pier Head or whatever?

Wow! How did you do that? That is my first view of myself as a toddler I've seen! What a fat face I had! I wonder what the sink thing is on the left - maybe that is what sinks used to look like? I reckon it was taken around 1960 or 1961.

Thanks for converting the image for me.

I did a poor conversion - took a photo of it on my mobile in 'negative' mode so it turned out 'normal'

I think I can remember my Dad taking this, as I was really impressed with that fountain thing....I think this photo is around 1970. Interesting that the tiles around the casing are dark in those days, as if memory serves me correctly they are white now.

The old Derby Pool, Harrison Drive, New Brighton. It was an open air pool, I think about half a mile or so up the road from the main New Brighton pool. We didn't like it as much because it always seemed to be colder. I think this photo was probably taken in 1970s, but I can't remember when that pool closed.

Royal Iris, assume taken from Seacombe landing stage in 1970s
