Yeah, it was called The Northern or to give it its full title, The David Lewis Northern Hospital. It was supposed to have been haunted by Florence Nightingale![]()
There's the former Bootle Borough Hospital, not far from the Seaforth container port. It's roughly here. Now called 'Mast House' the buildings are used by (I think) a pharmaceuticals company. I've had a sniff round the outside, and it looks like little or nothing got demolished, including what I think was the mortuary.
What? The caretakers flat - we want a tour![]()
The Northern was not out towards Bootle but was quite close to the City Centre. It stood on the corner of Great Howard Street & Leeds Street, where the Williams BMW dealership is now.
As well as the old Bootle Hospital in Derby Road mentioned by steveb, there was also the now demolished Stanley Hospital on Stanley Road in Kirkdale.
The Northern Hospital was one side of the Pier Head, and the Southern Hospital was on the other side. My Mother and sister did a bit of work there my sister was a nurse. The ghost I remember was of a woman who would be seen washing the steps of the Southern I don?t know if she did the Northern but you know what these Agencies are like. Heaps Mill was also said to be haunted by someone who got the sack. I don?t know if that meant a sack fell on him or if he got the push![]()
Oh as I was young and easy in the mercy of his means,
Time held me green and dying
Though I sang in my chains like the sea.
Dylan Thomas
I think it was called 'Bootle General Hospital'
^ 'Bootle Borough Hospital' is next door to the building in Geds' picture (a building which has an early 1900s memorial stone to someone)
A picture of the hospital is here:

<doh> posted wrong pic ha ha. Yes, it's now Mast House. We dealt with them in the 80s when it was Mast Labs. What is the building I posted Marky - do you know? Cheers.
I took a picture of the building and memorial stone, last year, but I'll have to look for it. It had the name of a man and a date, but I don't think it mentioned anything about the building.
OT The streets around there seem to be named after Admirals?
Edit: I've found a wide shot and it has a sign outside 'The Mast Group' and a small building called 'The Robert M. Cox memorial'. I must have been mistaken about it being dated, as I can't see a date from my pic.
Edit: I can just make out a date of 1915 on the main building.
