Sorry to be a pain but the photo Dave has put up is not taken from the same place as Colin's original photo. Colin's is from the corner of St Johns Lane and Roe Street. Dave's is from the corner of Roe Street and Queens Square. You can tell the difference by looking at the funny top shaped tower. On the first pic it's on the right. In the second pic it's in the distance/behind on the left.
That's the back of the open eye gallery on Whitechapel so the bottom end of Hood St/Roe St in the 1980s.
From a slightly different angle, showing St. George's Hall.

One of the joys of Yo is being able to view some of the photographs of Liverpool past that you guys post. Although most of them are way before my time there have been so many that have rekindled memories that I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all and hope you keep up the great work.

Deprived of its unique dockland waters Liverpool
becomes a Venice without canals, just another city, no
longer of special interest to anyone, least of all the
tourist. Would we visit a modernised Venice of filled in
canals to view its modern museum describing
how it once was?
