Came across this pic' of the"Mammoth" lifting a 200 ton tug, taken about 1946.
Thing is,I've heard that name mentioned, not so many years ago,so is it the same crane?

The Mammoth in the photo was built in Holland and owned by the MD&HB until 1986 when it was sold to a Swedish company and renamed Baltic Mammoth. It was scrapped in 1998. The MD&HB replaced it in 1986, naming the new vessel Mersey Mammoth, which is still in service in MD&HC ownership.
Here it is at the pier head on the 15th May 2008

The Mersey Mammoth has a maximum lifting capacity of 250 metric tonnes, compared with the original Mammoth's 200 tons capability.
With such enormous lifting capacity much of the Mersey Mammoth's deployment is beyond the Mersey, with work undertaken all around the UK & Ireland coastline and in continental Europe and Scandinavia.
Here's a pic of the old Mammoth, taken from one of the old 'Echo's of Yesterday' Pics not too good , paper getting discoloured with age now! but may give you a view for comparison with the new one.
Thanks Norm,
the biggest in the world eh! How come you've still got that Echo? I thought they ended up on a nail,on the toilet door!
