Here's some old photos of the inside of this beautiful church. The church was built in the mid to late 1860s and served the Greek shipping merchants and community that settled in Liverpool.

Anglican Cathedral Photos
The deep excavations and unfinished stonework whilst the wood carvings are protected by wooden casing. The debris truck is dwarfed by the size of the vaulted area.

George Siddall was engineer to the dean. Sadly a direct hit on his house which was right facing the Cathedral resulted in his death and also the death of his wife and child. This is the scene of the clear up afterwards. The Cathedral took direct hits during the May blitz of 1941, a bad time for the progress of the work as the previous winter had seen the worst conditions since records began, with blizzards and freezing fog which meant work almost came to a standstill between the January and the March 1940.

Other photos relating to the progress of the building were posted onto this page of my site yesterday. Please scroll right down to near the very bottom.
