I think there's a pic in one of Freddy O'Connor's books, possibly My City - my heritage or It all came tumbing down - there's certainly a mention of it.
Has any one a pic of the small police station that was on Kingsley Rd, Liverpool 8 , The building is still there today.
Thanks Karen
What a wonderful lot of pictures and info.! Have you got anything on the
Bridewell on Westminster Road? Or did I miss it? Stan. H

Many thanks Robbo - and what pictures too! Have you idea when and why it
went? I'm particularly interested in it because in about 1934/5 I had to go there
with my mother after being caught playing footie in Fonthill Road one Sunday
afternoon.I was terrified, even more so afterwards as I lay in bed at night
worried stiff that I would be expelled from school and worse. I don't
think we ever tried it again but saved up our energies to traipse up to the
playing fields in Hawthorne Road.Finding a place to play footlball when you were ados was a permanent problem as the Kirkdale Rec was prohibited and
the Parkie a constant threat.Believe it or not, it was about then that a group of
us took up bowls at the Kirkdale Rec and got quite keen on them. How we
managed it I don't know but we behaved ourselves and were obviously
serious and we ended up accepted. We had to hire our bowls of course - I can
still remember the number of the ones I used to choose - 16!! Happy days.
Thanks again for your help. Stan H
Next subject for research - the Kirkdale Rec!
The rec, I believe was built on the site of the old Kirkdale Gaol which gives rise to the name of the nearby Sessions road.
We played quite a lot in Kirkdale Rec as infants in St John`s school, the thing I never liked about it was the smell of the tannery near it when the wind was in the wrong direction.
Regarding Westminster Rd bridewell when we played football in the streets and roads we would run away from the police forgetting to take our coats
which we had put down as goal posts. Mothers would have to collect them from the bridewell ,paying a small fine.
Thanks for the link to this thread.
Very interesting.
The fire station/police garage which was next to Duke's Terrace was (along with Rose Hill at the same time) built as Liverpool's first police stations immediately after the police force was established in 1836.
The official address was Seel Street.
I know people from around there through my Wife and in-laws but haven't heard about anything. I also pass there often enough and have photographed around there. Here's hoping one day though..........;)
