You're entitled to disagree, but I don't want Kev to get sued.
I repeat.
Ask permission if you know who owns the photo.
If you don't know who owns it, don't use it, because somebody will own the copyright.
Otherwise, it's theft.
I know I've made at least one person not like me by stating this before.
But if something isn't yours you can't give it to somebody else.
Even if it's a fabulous photo.
If it's on the net post a link to it.
Kev isn't going to get sued at all Phil. I cannot imagine anyone bringing a copyright case to a forum owner, if that was the case then all forum's around the world would shut down!
It's a very grey subject of which I have taken legal advice on myself (for the same situation). I have been told that as long as I display a legal notice (see above) then I am asking the copyright holder to either inform me not to show the picture or to ask for credit. It's as simple as that and I will take the word over a paid solicitor over yourself.
Eh u 2, cheers for the advice! I'll consider all points raised.
I love this forum! :PDT_Piratz_26::hug:
Why stop???
Just put me as the owner,I don't care.:PDT10
My thoughts are this..If they're on the net and can be copied then go for it.
The copyright laws I agree with but when its available for copying/showing then there should be no problem.
Plus if you say its from an unknown source then you'll have no problem.
Keep em coming.:handclap:
Well, what an eventful day!
Glad that someone remembers the Hall Road tap. Hope that Merseywail is not going, I did not think that some of his pics existed of places!
The copyright issue is interesting, with a very rare exception, I am the copyright holder of what you see.
Some industrial firms had their own railway shunting locomotives, not usually able to be photographed, here are a few;
L. Rifkins scrapyard at Kirkdale, July 1976
Reads at Aintree, September 1976
Cadbury's at Moreton, September 1976
No. 3, Kirkby Trading Estate, January 1973
Monty, Cronton Colliery, Cronton, May 1972
I think this discussion has been well covered in the past , particularly between myself and Phil G...... so im saying nuthin :) although I am pleased sirob retrieved the slides from the bonfire in city road back in the sixties otherwise we would not be viewing some of these fine pics (lets hope the original owners of the slides dont find the pictures and decide to sue for breach of copyright!!... just joking Phil)
No I tell a lie...... please keep your pics coming Sirob, absolutely loving them. , and thanks Merseywall and everyone else who has shared their pics on this fine thread.
I'm with Zappa on this one
Publish and be D amned!

Hi Sirob. Just adding to the unanimous chorus of praise for your pictures. What a trip.
Do you have any more of Crosby and Waterloo by any chance? Or even Chester?
Can I just add to the praise for the photo's on "Unseen Liverpool", these are just superb, Martin. :handclap:
Phil, I am. I'm just giving my reasons for doing so having been through exactly the same situation on a past website. I consulted a solicitor who was experienced in this matter and I have passed the information on to Kev.
I'm not carrying on the thread 'just because', I'm giving free legal advice which I had to pay a small fortune for.

Great Bro Cad. Not much changed in that scene then.
I Don't think that I've any more on Crosby or Waterloo, but I'll put some on of Chester Station soon.
Family albumns can provide a fascinating insight as how we used to live;
Birthday partygoers, entry between Imson St. and Stuart Road, Walton, 1961
Ismay Street, typically dressed housewife,1959
Gateacre Brow, from the top of a tree! 1962
Rhyl,1959
Rhyl 1953
Thanks for sharing these old pics. :handclap:
Some More;
Chester Station frontage, 26/04/75
No 6000 King George V at Chester, same date
No 35027 Clan Line as above
No4472 Flying Scotsman on the Saxonia, to America, 19/09/69
A week before the end, Black 5 passing Rainhill, 04/08/68
Oh my what a kafuffle!!!! All these are my own pic's so, no copyright probs. The garden festival railway, the third is the shuttle train from Herculaneum. The last pic is ''Noddy'' the birkenhead north station cat, as seen in the distance on page 4. Sorry to all who had requested pics of certain stations, but the copyright probs have put a stop to all that. A shame as i have thousands in my collection, but better safe than sorry.
A great pity, Merseywail, but I suppose it's best to be safe than encourage litigation. I too have a lot of pics that are not mine and thus cannot publish!
How about;
The Lyceum, Bold Street, July 1978 (x3)
The Stock Exchange, Exchange Street East, February 1976 (x2)
Merseywail - thanks for the photos. That one of the cat ... I'm sure my aunty & cousins will remember that cat because they live very near to that station and have used it for decades. My uncle was a train driver on that line.
... and Sirob, as always - thanks for your pics too. :)
arr no! please dont stop posting these rare photos they need to be shared with the world so we can remember liverpools railway history the only problem i have had with copyrights is if i use photos of someone who is trying to make money and i steel there thunder if you get me lol as for this forum its great so i never want to loose it so i dont post photos here i use internet storage to direct them there instead of putting photos here.
if someone does ask me to remove photos because i have not copyrighted it i will but i hardly think the law will be brought into it lol otherwise can you imaging how many cases of this there would be if you dont know the refrence just make it up lol say its from liverpool libery archive but i do try to refrence photos that i know whos it is and i have asked many people if i can share there photos from my site.
hope this helps
This looks like it could be interesting :http://www.ianallanpublishing.com/pr...age=1&featured I love all these then and now books. And this too, http://www.ianallanpublishing.com/pr...at=1003&page=3 just watch out for Bob pixtons captions, LOL. I doubt any of are local book shops will stock them, they never do, why is that?? That unfortunately means another trip to manc's land, oh well.:cha (5):
Fantastic ones of the old stock exchange sirob. I didn't know there was another Imperial buildings. :handclap:
To ell with it. here's some from my postcard collection, all source unknown. should be no problem with these, no details or dates: Waterloo c1900,s no shortage of adverts back then. Bankfield gds c1930,s? Ainsdale c1900', with two of the L&Y electrics. Ainsdale again, with the through Southport to London train c1900's. And last Crossens on the Southport to Preston line.
Fantastic, Merseywail. Your pic of Bankfield shows one of "Aspinalls Rapid Dock Shunters" (ex L&Y 0-6-0 tank engine)
Some classic poses, with classic backgrounds to boot!
County Road, by Hampton Street, 1948
Entry, between Bedford Road/Bellamy Road, 1943 (Interesting because it shows the radio aerial poles in the yards-you needed about 50 foot of wire and an earth spike to get reception!!!! Also the bins let into the walls-the binman had a handle to lift them out, put one on his back and take it to the dustcart!!!!)
Bellamy Road, July 1943, the windows behind had been blown in by a land mine and boarded.
Seacombe, 1964
Dumbarton Street, County Road, 1957, typical group and austere backdrop.
great pics again. I was only talking about those bins in another thread last week. we still had them where I lived in the early 70's.
We have a logburner fireplace, it is free standing with a flat top, last winter we had a powercut, we were in the middle of cooking a pan of scouse, we placed the pan on the fireplace and stoked the fire up, it finished the job perfectly, nice eating a bowl of scouse in front of a roaring fire
Love the Waterloo Station picture. I used to stand there in the 70s waiting for the train to college in Southport. All looks much the same.
