I'm convinced they do.

It seemed to be a bit of a random thing. It was the pic with a caption under it saying that redevelopment had been going on a lot longer than most people think about. It said here is a photograph of Everton Heights new development being constructed in 1959 as old victorian property exists in its shadow - or words to that effect, I left the paper in work. I think it might've been the letters page.

Good pic Phil.
As Google Earth still has it:

Does anyone have any stories of this place?
My lasting memory of this area is me and a mate being chased on our mountain bikes as kids by two lads on a moped with bricks and a baseball bat. We got away too! Scally fu'kers!
Set on St. George's Hill, Everton ridge, it gave them the tallest vantage point over the city. You can see pics of them on my high rise page below.

Actually, someone might clarify if that's correct. There is of course a steep incline up Brunswick Road towards Low Hill. If you continued along West Derby Road you would have eventually came to Sheil Road Heights and i'm not sure if they would have stood on higher ground overall than St. George's.
I think I've got a contour map of Liverpool.
I'll have a look.
Ged, the audio tape you want is on its way.
Only £50!
Audio tape? tell me more, tell me more (could she get me a friend)....
Thanks for that Phil, will do and any you want for old Liverpool let me know.
I bought a map once and found that if you crumbled your rich tea biscuits on your desk before laying it out, it could also be used as a contour map. If you blew the crumbs around a bit, you could also get different results to suit your needs too.
Once heard that St Georges Heights was built on the highest point in Liverpool but I can,t quantify that statement:PDT_Piratz_26:
Hi Chippy, I Lived up by those flats a long time ago, I also was told that they were built on the highest point, must be something in it then.
thank you Gerard about the highest point, and Jackie, I lived in the heights and off Heyworth Street for 47 years. Smashing photos Ged, particularly like the one of Ann Fowlers in it,s latter days. John F Kenneddy Heights was home and death place of my gran and mam, in separate blocks. I would have thought that the heights along Netherfield Road would have been done up. I can just visualise them all standing so boldly from my bedroom window on the 19th floor. I used to have my headphones on and be listening to David Bowies Aladin Sane watching the world go by back in the 70s:rolleyes:
Chippie. I'm just trying to place Cresswell Mount as there were that many along Nethy. Am I right in thinking they stood bewteen George's Heights and Northumberland Terrace so perhaps where John Bagot Close flats are now. Am I also right in thinking that Rock View heights were on Torr Street, Mandy might be able to help with that one.?
Hi Ged, Cresswell Mount fronted Northumberland Terrace with the sides pointing north/south. North overlooking the south end of John Bagot Hospital and south looking towards St Georges and the back end of Heyworth Street School. It ended at the top of Fairy Street.:)
Sorry Ged, I was thinking of the time I was living in St Georges saying that John Bagot was at the side of the flats, I stand corrected, John Bagot was at the back of the front elevation:rolleyes:
Thanks Chippie, that's cleared something up because another poster had said on another thread that they were further along from Northumberland Terrace but I was sure they weren't - thank you for confirming i'm not going mad.
Cresswell Mount was on Netherfield Rd South, photo from LRO
& Rock View was in Devonshire place
Sorry Robbo, neither of those two buildings were Cresswell Mount. The said building was out of the picture further north, honest.:PDT_Aliboronz_11:
Sorry Robbo, neither of those two buildings were Cresswell Mount, those two fronted Everton Terrace, can,t think of their names at present, Ged will know them:PDT_Aliboronz_11:

Hi Chippie I'm certain they they are Cresswell Mount ,the same photo is in Ged's book In a City Living volume 2 & he says they are Cresswell Mount
heres a photo of Cresswell Mount during demolition in 1984 taken from Everton Terrace -photo from A Pub on every Corner- volume 4
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y94...swellMount.jpg
Cresswell Mount also had a small club at the bottom ,I went there a few times
Morning Mandy, the photo from the book is Cresswell Mount, my flat was top left. It didn,t have a club at the bottom but the first flats you put up did. They are two separate blocks. If you want pistols at dawn see my mam:PDT_Aliboronz_24:
Right. Been doing a bit more digging. :034:
I got my info off the LRO who scribble the whereabouts on the back of the original photies in the search room, however, it further seems to be corraborated (that's a big word Ged) by page 125 of Freddy O'connor's a pub on every corner vol 4 and also on page 53 of my book No.2 (the green one), there is an aerial shot of Gt Homer st from 1986 before HAT bought any of the high rise and so before any demolitions and there doesn't appear to be any high rise that far South (until Rock View). The Braddocks of course stood on the opposite side of Nethy next to the Old Stingo pub.
Here's an evening view from the other day.

:rolleyes:looks like the penthouse suite blew away there Phil
Does anyone have any 1950/60s photographs of Garibaldi Street and also the area where Netherfield Road North and South meet around St Georges Hill.

Mandy :)
Hiya Mandy. Thanks for that link. The last 2 captions of Freddy's are wrong though. One is of Everton Brow with John F. Kennedy heights in the background. The last one is of Prince Edwin Lane flats.
Chippie, I have some of Garabaldi Heights on my website mentioned below.
Some more Nethy pics off an Orange lodge site (well i'm bored)
Notice the little viewing tower by the lock up.
Thanks Mandy, the site,s not working for me either, oh well I,ll try again sometime later:PDT_Aliboronz_11:
Thanks Ged, I can see you,re bored, can you nip down to a chippie and get me a fish and portion of chips and mushy peas, please.:PDT_Piratz_26:
It was shut until 5 Chippie.
Terry, the caption for the first one says 1962, the other says early 60s but it could well be the same march.
I don't remember those flats myself but the location looks to be just South of the lock-up between Browside and Eastbourne Walk. The Radcliffe estate of course wasn't built until the 1970s but most of it was south/east of this area behind Whitley Gardens (Shaw st park)
Logan Towers was situated over the bridge (as it's called) between Athol st and Shadwell st - off Boundary st.
I can't remember those flats either ,there is a church now on the site but its set back a bit
Ged have you got a link for the orange lodge site please
