THAT sort of weather is amazing when Great George is being tolled - the 14 ton bell. You can actually SEE the fog move around the louvers in the tower!

I've 'rung' Great George many a time, you can ring it by yourself but you need a bit of muscle. Certainly ringing it for an hour will be interesting - it travels for miles and I think I'll be there with a camera to record a few minutes worth.
The trouble is, they're ringing at St Nick's Pier Head - which you can't hear from the centre of town, and SFX too, which won't reach town. The only bells that you will hear are the ones at the Municipal Buildings (Council offices) in Dale Street - and of course Great George!

Now this is what I call a blast from the past. A rare view of the Falkner Estate on Upper Parliament Street as well as the buildings in front of the Cathedral and other houses off North Hill Street.
