Nice light reflection in your photo Gregs dad... Looks inviting...
Any news about the Britannia? Ginger the Cat posted, it may be pulled down and a new establishment built.. Anyone??????
Part of the Great Eastern, Mill Street is getting demolished at this very moment.
The Red Rum near stonebridge lane stands in isolation with no roof after the housing estate it furnished was flattened last month.
This might be a long shot, but I'm trying to find out the name of a pub in Seaforth. Its long gone, and occupied the space opposite the station car park, in front of the scrap dealers. It was known locally as the Rat House, but no-one can tell me what it was actually called.
I can't ever remember it being there, I was born in '64, so it must have been demolished before the late 60s. I recall the site being rubble though, so perhaps it wasn't knocked down too much before then.
Sean
I'll have a dig around tonight and see what I can come up with. Either way i'll report back.
I don't know Seaforth by the places you mention, but if it was the pub near the station entrance (on the corner of Seaforth Road and School Lane), it was called the "Seaforth Hotel".
(I've only found out by checking maps and a street directory). :)
Is this the one?
The Seaforth Hotel.
I assume this is the one from the location you give.
This view is from 1958. On the left are the sheds of Seaforth and Litherland railway station, behind are Bootle gas works and centre/back is Johnson's dyeworks. The pub is in the centre at the junction of School Lane. A former bank is at the other junction. In the forefront are railway sidings and a scrap yard. The scrap yard and low level railway line have gone and are now part of a modern car park and cut to Princess Way. The site of the pub is now a scrap yard. The bank and remainder of the block still stands whilst the gasworks tall chimneys have gone and Johnson's dyeworks has been considerably reduced in height.

The Royal on the corner of Bank Hall and Stanley Road. The barbers shop was were Alex Stevenson the ex Everton Irish International player had his
sweet shop. When we were going to the Commodore cinema we would go in there and look at his International caps on display in a glass case on the counter
It's currently appropriate you mention the closed down pubs of the area Joe. Ron Formby has been snapping some for the next edition of the Scottie Press - do you get it, I know he delivers it to Norris Green and Kirkby because of the many ex Scottie residents up there.
The likes of the Stanley Bar, Kendal, Easby, Cabin, Tramways, Pitch Pine, Shaky - all shut. Others yo-yoing all the time like the Roundhouse and Swifts.
These pubs used to form communities within with the likes of Darts, Pool and footy teams in leagues, quiz and party nights with guitarists and parochial clubs with parishoner help. Sunday was always a family get together.
All down the pan.
