£45.00 to cruise to Austrialia - luxury class - £14.00 steerage. Luxury for me I think. Great adverts - thanks for posting.
Excellent burkhilly, get your holidays booked up now.
I'll post some later ads tomorrow.
I see no one went for G. Hulse, dealer in "Live Turtle" at 154 & 156 Dale Street.
Why would you keep live turtles? Turtle soup perhaps?

They were fascinating Dazza TA! looked at them all, some I remember!!!!! (no! I'm not thet old) the Insurance guy 'Mr James Crompton' was a bit 'on the nose' with his comment "The young may die soon, The aged must" !!!!! I would'nt buy insurance from him ever!!! My wife, in her younger days worked in the laboratory at Goodlas Walls! mind you they were in Hunts Cross then!
Thanks Norm, I'm glad you enjoyed the Ads. Funny to see them in print without telephone numbers or websites. Still they knew how to pull the punter in. Some like your insurance guy are easy to avoid by today's standards.
I'll try and find some more.
Cheers, Daz.

We're going further back in time now. It's 1843, let's see the goods your 3rd x gt. grandparents would have looked at.
Don't forget to visit the Liverpool Zoological Gardens? Sample the Mathematical and Philosophical Instrument makers in Lord Street. Drop in to Dreaper's Piano Forte and Music Bazaar, 56 Bold Street.

'Huckaback' I had to look up. " A coarse, absorbent cotton or linen fabric used for making towels."
Barnsley rates a mention in it's manufacture. Which in turn led me to this site...

Thanks Oudeis, I'd heard of the word before but didn't know what it was?
One of the Ads is for "Liverpool Zoological Gardens" but no address is given. Could this be the one on West Derby Road, just past the Grafton? [que - jokes about the animal-like behaviour in the Grafton; which was a menagerie of sorts].

Well, and so it goes on...
The E H Bostock mentioned on the above site employed this man...

And he (EH Bostock) is buried along the road from where I live and was buried in style. His coffin was drawn by zebras, for instance. His memorial too is a little bit special...
