Anonymouse, thanks for those, haven't seen the second one before.
Am I right in thinking the second one was taken somewhere near where Sainsbury's is now, looking towards Dovecote ?
But then the road doeasn't look that wide, unless they "moved" the fencing on Springfield Park, over to the left more ! to create another side of the central reservation..... It just doesn't seem right !
Mart, those are the houses just past the Wheatsheaf looking down to the Knotty Ash Tandoori. The old East Prescot Road used to follow this route

Spot on Mart, this was Prescot Road before it became a dual carriageway and was renamed East Prescot Road. The other half went the other side of the 'Turk's Head' (where Wynsors is now) and the Village Hall.
Never put anyone on a pedestal... THEY'LL LOOK DOWN ON YOU!
My memories are from 65 years ago and I can't be sure. I would say that it was before the cinema which in the 40's was a different building to the one in the pic. It was known as the New Premier, last time I was in Liverpool about 3 years ago the building was still there and you could see where the name had been painted on it.
The Premier Garage was a narrow alley entrance that widened out at the back of the building.
When the smoke has cleared and the bullets cease.another soldier rests in peace. The politicians who caused the fight, rest at home no danger in sight
My mother is from Old Swan. Baden Road. I was christened at St. Oswald's. I suppose my mother's family's local church although I was born and grew up in Micawber Street.
Earth is the insane asylum for the universe.
Finally went to the LRO yesterday morning, looking for Old Swan and surrounding areas, pics for a website I am doing
Anyway, got 25 to add to the site but a few have me a bit puzzled. The photo's I got copies of have very basic info on them e.g. Prescot Rd Knotty Ash 1921.
I can't seem to recognise where they may be so thought I'd put a few on here, to see if any of the people on here can recognise anything....
Anyway, here we go:
First one said Prescot Rd - Knotty Ash Terminus 1921.... can't work out which way this is looking on Prescot Rd. I know it was widened early in the 1900's. Mart
Prescot Rd - Oct 11th 1922....
Well this could be anywhere !
Prescot Rd "Bridge" - 1921
It could be Stanley Station on the right ...
or could it be Knotty Ash Station on the right ?
( opposite Sainsbury's now )
If not, where are the other bridges it could be ?
Martin.
A Pic from the LRO of the Water Tower.
According to Colin Gould "A Pictorial History of Old Swan", he says the Water Tower is by Green Lane Bus Depot.
Looking at this pic, I suspect it was behind Hoult's Corner ( where Tesco is now )
The left hand side of the pic looks like Barclays Bank ( top of Derby Lane ), in the second pic, Barclays Bank is to the right in the background AND in the third pic, is that the tower / Chimney behind Hoults corner ? I think so
