I spoke to one of the guy's and asked what is going to happen to the cinema
and he said that because of all the damage it may have to be demolished.

Sad to hear that, hope they at least keep the facade but I programme I watched recently said that because Vat is payable on renovations and not on new build, it is cheaper fro developers to demolish and start again.

Well done on spotting the men working there and asking for permission. Refreshing too that they allowed you in, in these days of H&S gone mad.

Hey, nice work dp!! I've wanted to see some good, up to date photos of that for a long time. Really, I'd have liked to have seen inside myself, but it has always eluded me. So good going, and thanks for sharing. A shame about the damage, I heard something about a fire in there years back. Maybe Philip can fill us in on some background?

    Good for you, dp.
Did you find out what they were doing?
The Futurist sign looks suspiciously new!
And the yellow banners are down.

Presumably they only let you into the foyer?

The auditorium is in a very bad way, and will be demolished (and probably the rest of the building!)
During 2004, as part of the Biennial, there was a film projected onto a glass screen which you could see at the entrance.
Don't know what the point was, unless it was paid for by a demolition firm, but it showed that there have been fires and there are holes in the roof and ceiling, and a lot of the decorative plasterwork has fallen off.

They were filming in Water Street yesterday.
    Wonder if there's any connection?

Hi all thanks for the Comments.

I asked about the auditorium and the guy said it was in a hell of a state, the floor was a raised wooden floor and it's rotten with holes everywere, part of the screen area has started to fall in to the auditorium.

As Ged says i hope they keep the facade, and incorporate it in to a future building.

great pics drone. can't say I like the modern Futurist sign much though.
good for you asking to go in.
I hope they do keep the facade of the Futurist, suppose a lot will depend on the developer.

there were workmen in the old Forum a couple of weeks ago so I don't know what's happening with that now. anyone heard owt?

I passed the cinema on Saturday, and noticed the new sign. I see on the pics, the entrance was £2.00 for adults and £1.00 for kids, those were the days!

I remember the Futurist had 'Sensurround' in the mid 1970s, with films such as Earthquake, Rollercoaster and Battle at Midway causing the cinema to shake (I believe Ged used to take his girlfriends there to make the earth move )

The last I heard on the Forum, it is going to be an American supper club?

It's been used as a part of a project that's in the current show at the Tate:

Liverpool artist Paul Rooney is invited to talk about his work. He is creating a new film featuring the city's aspiring stand-up comics, shot in the derelict Liverpool cinema The Futurist. Is it a documentary or is it fiction

Anyone got any idea what on earth is happening to this building? I simply cannot believe what has happened to it over the past 20 years. The silence from the council is deafening. It's in such a sorry state... It's painful just looking at it.

Likewise The Forum.... what's going on? Anybody?
