Nice pics there but that's not a flock of seagulls, it's a knot of Knots.

Could have been fire engine house before they took out the rest to fit the window.

    Very fine, Joe.

In terms of the fire house with the seeming extra "E" is it possible that the window was put in later and it originally read "Fire Engine House"?

When the Sculpture of the Knots was unveiled there was outcry by the locals, telephone calls to Roger, letters to the Globe etc.
I was working over there at the time and really liked it from day one.
As it ages it seems to look better and I think it has grown on the locals now.

Nice photos there! What date do you reckon that is in the brickwork.. 1901?

Shameless plug: Visit my Hoylake site for new/old photos of Hoylake.

Yes it's 1901. Although not immediately obvious given the monogram-like nature of the way the date is presented, more as a design than to convey the information that it is telling us a date. Here in Baltimore there is a fine 1888 datestone that is presented in a similar way.

Thanks for the link, tallbloke, I will check it out.
