I once, many years ago, found a bayonet in the sand at Hartlepool. Places like this with many remnants of coastal defences might be your best bet.

Might you be fascinated, intrigued or just plain interested in WWII, rather than love it? All said and done "rather them than me".

A WW2 unexploded bomb was found in the cellar of the Red House in Old Swan in the 1980's when they were renovating.
    Got defused and taken away.
As far as metal detecting goes, beaches, demolition sites etc

I know of two reasonable finds on the banks of the river Alt. When I lived in Crocky, a lad I knew used to go rumaging for old bottles with the marbles in as the bank of the Alt had eroded uncovering an old tip. Not only did he find bottles, he also found three war medals. Another lad I worked with found an extremely old sword which he had to part with to the museum as it was classed as an antiquity. I think it was around Fazakerley where he found it.

I believe a metal detector is not required for locating codswallop as this may be found in any good chippy.

leelad05 - don't forget to post some pics of your finds here. It'll make a great talking point. This could be your finds journal???
