Default Burial Ground on Smithdown Road?

I have been looking on Toxteth.net today and it says there is (was) a quaker burial ground on Smithdown Road by ASDA.
This has recently been built on with a new housing estate.
Does anyone have any more info/pics?

There is an old pic in one of Paul Bolger's Directories of Liverpool, but it's at a weird angle.

The burial ground is still there. Entrance, usually locked, off Arundel Avenue, L17

Blimy, the things you don't know about in Liverpool - any number of people could have simply walked past that without realising!

That entrance is near the Smithdown Rd end of Arundel Avenue. I've never seen that gate open yet. There's also a 'turnstile' built into that long red-brick wall. I think it's a 'gated community'

    Hi Marky

I think the turnstile is for Toxteth Park cemetery. As far as I'm aware that is separate from the Quaker Burial Ground.

We drove around the back of those new houses, and there's about an 8 foot wall around the ground. Too high to even reach up and click your camera over!( I feel disrespectful saying that !)

    Kev's right.
The turnstile was for Sefton General.
Not sure if it was just for staff.
The NHS still use some of the hospital buildings at that end for things like blood tests.

Thanks for the info. I knew some houses were built on that side, but I haven't had a good look.

Yeah seen that myself when been for blood tests at the back of Asda. It's a strange turnstile - completely out of place!

I've emailed the Quakers and asked if they have any more info.
    Fingers crossed!
