Thumbs up War on City Filth

From Todays Echo (watch video editorial):

Yet another case of dealing with the effect of a problem rather than the cause. How about introducing on-the-spot fines for dropping litter? And make it doube for cigarette butts and chewing gum. Persistant offenders should be made to do community service at the local rubbish tip or have their gardens/letterboxes filled with waste on a regular basis.

The more you go round cleaning up after these selfish idiots, the more acceptable they'll think it is to behave like it.

What a line from the council....

The very worst grotspot buildings and derelict sites have been identified as a priority for action, with those that cannot be refurbished in time hidden from view.

So they're going to have holograms in front of most of the derelict buildings and properties all over Liverpool?

"come to liverpool and count the hoardings, behind each one is a fantastic building being left to rot'

On the spot fines and cctv are already in operation across the city to tackle litter etc. The council have also installed hundreds of new bins over the last few months. As the video editorial stated people need to start doing their bit by looking after their properties and not dropping litter.
The council are also cracking down on landlords who leave empty buildings to rot for years by giving them deadlines to either demolish or renovate the buildings. A recent example is the king edward pub near costco.

At the end of the day it's the people of Liverpool that drop litter so it's our responsibility to stop and start taking pride in our city, no matter where you live.

I agree that people should respect the city and not drop litter, deface
buildings etc, but unfortunately, they will not take any notice, as for on the
spot fines, yeah right, what figure are we talking about ?, and how will it be
paid ?. Really it has to be cash, as issuing a fixed penalty notice will have no
effect at all, just look at all the unpaid court and parking fines....
Did you know that people can get a council community skip to put all the
rubbish in. We had one delivered and within 20 mins, it was overloaded.
It was colected the next day and of course to get the net over the skip
the driver had to remove some of the stuff, just left it on the pavements
a few phone calls and they came and cleared up, see pic,s

If anyone has any rubbish they should just call bulky bobs. They take everything from washing machines to ironing boards free of charge, as it is a council ran initiative.

Bulky Bob,s is a great service if you have stuff, as AKI says like
fridges, TV,s old computers etc. What they do is try and refurbish
the stuff for resale, furniture is resold via furniture resources, they will
not take normal rubbish, ie garden rubbish, old doors etc, hence the
    community skip idea....

    Default bulky bob

Where I live in Nantwich our council will send a wagon for £25 whether it is for one item or a whole load. Otherwise I ring up a charity to take my unwanted furniture away so they can resell it in their Crewe church.

If only people would do this sort of thing instead of just dumping
rubbish on waste ground or in back alleys... Here in Liverpool both
Bulky Bob,s and community skip are free of charge. I like the idea
    of the £25 wagon...

There is absoloutely no excuse for flytiping or dropping litter. People who do it are just lazy. In my opinion the council are doing everything they can to tackle the problem. There's bulky bobs, community skips, recycling centre in otterspool with another to open in the north of the city and the kerbside recycling service all of which are free of charge.
It is the fault of the people who are doing it, not the councils.

They could do this with the buildings they don't have the time to knock down with the Edge Lane development. Loads of advertising and a nice new route into the city centre (and a toilet of an area gone)

Now why dosn't that surprise me. Again as AK1 says there is no excuse
for people to drop litter, fly tip etc as the council has provided various
methods of getting rid of your rubbish. In the road I live a typical example
some months ago was the neighbours children eating crisps outside, when
finished they just threw the empty packets on the floor even though they
were standing next to a purple wheelie bin, give the neighbour his credit he
made them pick them up, point being how often do you see this happen
in the city center ?, loads

I've used the Bulky Bob service loads of times. Anything else goes to local charity shops or to the Romania shoe box appeal.
It's a sin to see the waste and what some people chuck out ... why don't they hand stuff over to charity ! .. it's too much trouble for them - they are bone idle.

There is no need to dump anything.

It should be said that all the litterbins were full to overflowing, but its very sad that the city centre is treated in such a way, on the spot fines ...yes.
We have the powers , so lets use them:.
