We should be honest, and not sound like a misguided advert.
Park Road's architecture has been improved over recent years (but there are still sections of decay), but one suspects that's because it's more of a main road than Mill Street.

Hi Philip. My home is owned by the local music legends, husband and wife team, 'The Real Thing.' They're are great standard bearers of property development these days.
When I moved in Sylvia who loves this place told me she had done some research on No.9 'The Mews' when she bought it. She didn't go into detail; always on the move is Sylvia; but she told me there was evidence to suggest that Queen Victoria and Prince Albert stayed here as the guests of the then owners.
Until the 1950s or 60s an internationally renowned cancer research consultant lived here, whose name escapes me. (sorry). The house fell into disrepair until Sylvia licked it into beautiful shape. People like Sylvie and Eddie don't get the publicity they deserve.
Apparently The Mews was the original manor to which the existing Sunnyside Drive leads. I thought the original owner must have been into shipping but no; alas I can't remember what she said on that one. When Ullet Road was a country lane (imagine) he bought his daughter a manor there, as a wedding gift.

Think of how it looked two years ago! Now that the Florrie is about to be rennovated (I still won't believe it until I see it), and there are signs of new developments at the bottom of Mill Street (Parliament Street end), and some of the shops have been rennovated - not to mention a new takeaway opening (doesn't sound much, but hey -it's a step in the right direction), I think the open spaces won't last much longer. (Well, no more than 10 years). I think Mill Street should be opened up to through traffic again. The way so many of the streets in the Grafton Street/Mill Street area end abruptly with a bit of fly-tipping and plenty of broken glass makes that part of town feel more desolate and cut-off than it should do given its great location.

I agree with you about the Florrie! I have gone past daily in the last few months and nothing seems to be happening.
This bad weather can't have helped much.
I hate to be a pessmist I really do, but whenever I go past the Florrie, there are gangs of hoodies (I even saw some smashing the phone box outside a few weeks back). I hope when all of these millions are spent on the building, they do not destroy it.
I don't know what they can really do to prevent it.

I was only about five when it happened, and we lived right off Granby Street. Mum sent me up to relatives in St. Helens, and I came back when it was over. All I remember her telling me is that somebody stole from a butchers, and was carrying a full pig on their back

Heritage Open Day at Toxteth Town Hall Community Resource Centre

Between 30 August and 30 September over 250 of Merseyside’s most famous sites will open their doors to the public –giving the people the opportunity to celebrate the city’s fantastic culture and heritage. Heritage Open Days commemorate the best in architecture by giving people free access to properties that are usually closed to the public or charge an admission fee.

September 21st

10am - 5pm.

This is a fabulous example of community-led heritage conservation, winner of the British Urban Regeneration Association (BURA) Award for Community Regeneration 2004, and one of only Two other Liverpool Town Halls outside the City Centre.

This ever popular event will once again feature Radio Merseyside’s Frank Carlyle and Vincent Burke, as well as brilliant 97-year old artist George Cross.

It will also feature some innovative ‘virtual archaeology’, where the history of the area will be peeled away using new technology.

Tesco's PR were handing out pamphlets, about the proposed new store at the old Leos/Mecca Bingo site.
475 jobs, underground parking, petrol station etc.
A major develpment as all the area upto Mellville street is included.
As far as I know they haven't submitted actual plans yet, though rumours have been around for months.
One thing I did notice was the title "A new lease of life for TOXTETH" in large letters on the front page...most people (but not all) would probably say they should call it Dingle.
I was given the leaflet by someone, and told there was a small presentation in the entrance of the old building. I don't know if it will be repeated tomorrow.
Going from memory the original streets, of this area, were cleared in the mid-70s.

Has the planning permission been granted for the petrol station ?, The local residents were up in arms over the petrol st , but all welcome the proposed Tesco .
Wonder who'll win , my guess is Tesco .

I checked the Councils' Planning website, and nothing appears as yet. Traffic is bound to increase around the residential streets, as customers would create 'rat runs' (to avoid the busy Park Road)

On a different subject...I didn't know Tesco owned Former St. Augustine's Home, Aigburth Road, Liverpool, L17. (I noticed they had plans to build 5 blocks of apartments on this site)
