I don't know who Steph is but her name is written all over St John's gardens.

I happened to walk through the other day and was sadenned to see the gardens in such a state. Vandals have defaced statues and walls and even the back of the hall itself. The flowerbeds are neglected and the area looks poor. I would have thought with the refurbishment of the hall that the gardens would have been restored. Steph and her likes should be punished for vandalism.

The Bandstand at Sefton Park and a view of the park lake. Both taken in Summer 2000 by my friend Geoff Andrews.

Calderstones Park (11/06/07) I have reduced the pictures size, so the quality isn't quite as good as the original.

Great pics, AK1! They bring back some pleasant memories of Calderstones Park for me.

steveb is right, photobucket is a great service, very easy to use for dopes like me.

I can just change the size of the picture before I take it, so I don't have to bother altering it afterward. I downloaded Irfanview yesterday to alter the pics. Thanks for the advice!

Here's a trivia question for you, AK1! In the third picture along, the one of the mansion house, there is a wall in the foreground and a ditch, which isn't as obvious. When I was a lad attending Quarry Bank I took a slide of a couple of my mates jumping the ditch in their school uniforms. My question is, do you know what the ditch is called. It is a regular landscaping feature on old country estates. No cheating. Or maybe you know already. . .

Yes, Billo, the feature is called a "ha ha" and comprised a ditch that was designed to stop deer or cattle coming onto the grounds of the house. The ha ha couldn't be seen from the house and provided an unbroken vista from the mansion to the distance.
