That Summerseat is like time stood still isn't it. I wish i'd got into this when my parents were alive, there's so much I'd have asked them now but in your late teens and early 20s I thought your mouth was for eating chips and drinking lager. How far have you got with your research, have you tried the L.R.O. search room or the genealogy forum on here?

Summer seat is fascinating place. It does look like time stood still.
Non Parel - a strange name - wonder what it means?

thanks for info about the statues. I've learned something new and I wasn't aware of them before. It's true that you don't appreciate these things when you are young, you take things for granted. I'm looking at the tennies in a different light now.

    Jimbo.

All taken by me in 1990.

The first one shows part of Portland Gardens kept up as Sheltered accommodation, looking up Green Street. As you can see, the stairwell gaps have been filled in by adding windows.

The second pic is of the flats on the corner of Limekiln Lane and Burroughs Gardens, close to the old Burroughs wash-house/baths. Kingsway Court by Wimpey now stand here.

The last one is of the tennies that were on Burlington Street, this being the landing side which fronted towards Bond Street and Eldon Street.

What's this about hod carriers & architects ? .. relief sculptures on the walls I presume? I am fascinated now ... the statue down by Islington - I looked over at it the other day - is it to do with this ? I've never been close up to that statue.

There were some tenements in Boundary st that I recall. Was it Heriot st?
These pictures of the Architect (you can see the plan for Gerard Gardens in his hand) and Hod Carrier were taken by me when they resided in the Museum of Liverpool Life. Whilst researching my film I came across a guy who worked for Sloyan Doyle during the demolition of the flats. He said he spent three days carving the statues out of the brick. Whilst doing the final part of the hod carrier his boss visited the site and asked what he was doing. "Carving these statues out" he said. His boss replied "just put the ball through them!!" Luckily thanks to the persistance of that guy the statues were saved.

Lets hope they find a new home in the new Liverpool museum. Ged and I are trying arrange for a section within the museum where his model of Gerard Gardens can be on display, surrounded by the statues which will lead to an arch. You enter the arch and end up in a small theatre which will run my film Gardens of Stone. We believe the combination of items will help visitors see what inner city living was like in 20th Century Liverpool.

The Green Man was also of course used in the 'Boys from the blackstuff' series 'Georges last stand'. A very funny bittersweet episode.....shakehands, the glass collerctor, the Adelphi waiter ...'we'll I never felt more like singin' the blues'

Anyone remember a pub called Arthurs ? It was the name of the manager,I used to wait for my mam and dad of a Sunday sitting outside with the classic bottle of lemo and smiths crisps(the packet with the little blue twist of salt in)There used to always be a "do" on after the session and a big carry out with thick wooden crates filled with Mackies and Guiness.Me mam was gear on the piano and I used to watch and listen in awe.Arthurs was in Titchfield st. I think.

And just seen the photos of Portland gardens Ged ...thank you ,we used to climb out of the second stairwell and sling ourselves around to the landing using a "hanging washing out iron stanchion" ,this was used then to shimmy over to the landing...spiderman lar "I dare yer" gear.

You'll recognise this one then Jimbo, two photos crudely stuck together but you'll get the idea...
