It's a good job Crowley or Grocott never had him in over the coals explaining having half of Greg's in there eh.

As Philip has already said, Reeces was in Parker st - the Owen Owen building.

I used to go there for the Friday night discos early 1970s. Sometimes there would be a live band or singer like Edwin Starr.
The disco was always Mowtown & Soul music.
The guys had to wear a tie to get in.

Yeah, I went to the Top Rank. Every time I hear the record 'Spirit In The Sky' it takes me right back to there - it was number one in the charts at the time and we were all dancing like mad to it in the Top Rank, ha,ha

I saw that black group from Manchester - their name escapes me - they had a no.1 hit with 'Sad Sweet Dreamer' .. they were on live at the club one Saturday night.

What about "Oscars" bottom of Hanover Street..
Great disco Downstairs and Boss Chicken in the Basket upstairs.
The Steve Gibbons band (Tulane) were on there one night and his Roadies had done one or something and me and the Lads, who were well in with the Management at the time ended up having a stay behind with Steve Gibbons and being his Roadies about 4 O'clock in the morning..

Probably not best described as a Legendary Liverpool Club - not in terms of the Shakey and the old Merseybeat sort of venues anyway - but the Paradox, if anyone's interested is now 95% demolished. In fact, only the clock tower remains.

I find this quite sad to be honest, two parts of Liverpool history gone - of course the Paradox and before that, Vernons.

    That's them ! Sweet Sensation

Jilly Johnson - I remember her .. and I remember Woolies on London rd.

I remember all the other clubs mentioned further back in the thread, ie; Beachcomber, Chequers, etc. What about the Babalou ? Did you go there?
I didn't bother much with these clubs. I went to them maybe once or twice - but it was the Victoriana for me I used to go there 2 or 3 times a week. Thursday nights and the weekend nights. Me and may mate were obsessed with the place ! !

The Masquerade was first called 'The Archways' and was in Hocken Hall alley (spelling ?). Harry Halliday ran the place and the name changed to Masquerade. The club moved to the old Red Dragon restaurant in Cases st. The next move was because of the Clayton shopping mall getting built and the club had to move on - it went to the Temple next.

Not sure where it's located now. Somewhere around the Dale st vicinity ?

    ps,

the Curzon is a different place.
