Angelos Sikelianos Drank Lysol (CTG)
Angelos Sikelianos Drank Lysol
Angelos Sikelianos failed to expire
like Socrates by imbibing hemlock
-- the poisoned cup for
activist Greek philosophers.
No, he died from sipping Lysol,
mistaking it for medicine
-- such an ignoble end for
modern Greece's lyrical poet!
A low and cheap disinfectant
that assails the nostrils,
sweetener of urban water closets
and mountain farmers' out-houses!
Angelos Sikelianos is gone,
and Lysol is the poet's assassin!
Angelos has been stolen from us!
Let us congregate to drink ouzo
in the olive groves of his legacy!

Came fourth...now what?
It wasn't the sonnet
wot done it
not any rhyme
the culprit this time
no verse, I am told
laid this poet out cold
rely, we may well
on our own sense of smell
but this poet, a fount of description
fatally mistook his prescription
for alas, not even foul odour
could save this particular oder
