becomes a Venice without canals, just another city, no
longer of special interest to anyone, least of all the
tourist. Would we visit a modernised Venice of filled in

Great picture but makes me a bit sad. How could they just demolish a whole area like that around the north of Canning place and around South Castle street. Full of interesting and original warehouses and comercial buildings and swept away for the QE11 law courts...........
A total disgrace to do such a thing. The yellow sand hoppers of Abels are still there on the south quay of Canning Dock. On the east quay at Canning Dock can be seen some yellow items. These were tower cranes made in Ireland. They would be unloaded here and left on the quays until collection.
Some sort of cement hopper was on the Canning Graving Dock. The ship used the graving dock as the berth.
A coaster is using the Canning Dock. The transit sheds are still there. I saw a ship berth there and unload about 5 to 10 years ago. The only part of the south end docks commercially used.

Interesting to see the cranes. How good would they have looked if they were still there!?! Give a bit of life to that dock area which is pretty empty for some reason, at least having some boats/ships in there would make the Albert dock look less isolated and far away. These bits of heritage should always be kept to remind people of what areas were actually for. At least Glasgow have kept the Finiston crane which is a great landmark.
Didn't know the other warehouse at Waterloo dock survived until the 60's. Always thought it went just after the war!

Can you find who this "man" is who took the photies and provide us with at the very least a username? Link? I'd like to thank him. Can you have a look again and let us know? It's only fair if you post his photies. Thanks for posting this person's cracking pics, by the way. Never seen them before![]()

i only posted them here cos you have to be a member to see them on www.scousehouse.net
I did say that, and in no way am claiming credit for them.
the pics are postcards, and not photos.
the man's username is springy.
Some images from the revised planning application, there is a double height foyer at ground level and a plant room on top of the 32nd level. The revised tower doesn't seem to have lost too much height and it is a bit slimmer. It looks like there are balconies on this building a bit different from the other residential towers.
Nice one Paul. Beetham West looks absolutely gigantic, viewed from Everton Brow by the way.
Plot 3a Princes Dock Reduced in Height - in case you're interested for more details.
I hate it when projects are reduced in height for seemingly poor reasons, but in this case I agree with the council. I think that 36 floors was too big for the site in front of Beetham west. Any buildings along that stretch of waterfront should be smaller than the buildings behind it so they aren't blocked out of view. I think that anything bigger than West Tower should go behind it or alongside it such as the King Edward Tower which could possibly be up to 50 floors. I think that the real supertalls will be built by Peel in central docks.
