This QE2 wall post-box is at the Southern end of Allerton rd. Not in use, but probably left in place as it is built into the sandstone wall. It's the only black QE2 post-box I've found (it's obviously been painted red underneath).
Now for the ultimate challenge...who knows the location of any BLUE postal-boxes. I've only ever seen 2. One was around West Derby (unsure of exact location in the mid-90's). The other was outside the old post office in Tarbock (early 1980's). At the time I thought it was blue because I was in another Council area, but a quick Google search states that they were used for Airmail for a brief period in the 1930's only.
There was a piece today on BBC TV North West about a group who photograph post-boxes (they interviewed a member from Formby) A quick Google search revealed The Letter Box Study Group. He stated that they try to log the locations of all pillar-boxes. This site has several variations that I've never seen before.
