I can understand why people get despondent. Nothing changes no matter which party takes control, but it's far, far better than many other parts of the world and for that we should be thankful. We make complaints on the basis of relative wealth, for instance; different strata of wage rates, linked to percentage pay increases means that the division between the better and the lowest paid is forever widening. All three major parties always promise to correct the disparity, but none ever do. So mistrust is ever present in the mind of the voter.

Establishing a new political party and getting widespread support for it is extremely difficult as Arthur Scargill's; Socialist Labour Party has shown and the SLP was formed in 1997.

Penetrating the major parties with enough members to gain control like the Militant Tendency did, is one method, but their success was short lived. Even though the 49 socialist Liverpool city councillors kept their manifesto promises, i.e. creating jobs and building two storey semi detached houses to replace deck access and Victorian dwellings.
The media slaughtered them because they feared political change of such intensity and the public turned away from them because of media reports of the conduct of one high profile councillor who was allegedly involved in corrupt practises.

Therefore to achieve changes to the current political system, some method of breaking it down must be implemented. First we must destabilise the established old boys network by voting for an Independent candidate, or better still, an anti-sleaze candidate. When the major parties are in disarray because of heavy losses that is when change can be demanded by organised groups.

I can go with that idea , but who would run it , we'd still have a leader of some sort ..

Why would anyone bother to vote for 'smaller parties' unless we had proportional representation? Who thinks there's any chance of that?

I did have an idea that followed on from my origonal push for local Independents...

Form a new Political Party; No whips, no party before people.
Outline a manifesto.
Put said manifesto to the electorate and ask one to stand, or ask the voters to find one among them to stand in each constituency.
Guarantee a few key things (as I have above) to be enacted by the people AT the ballot box and to come about on the instant enough votes are secured.

I did think the big-partys would pinch a few ideas and call them their own and here and there in small ways this did happen, with power2010 and other pressure groups. But, sadly there is nothing to come from any of the three main partys for Democracy or FOR the commoner (you & me).
They each promise to tinker with the way things are but offer no improvement. The Lib-Dems have taken to the lime-light as a duck to water. Three shades of blue.

It is just that as we each & all shall pay (again) although we did not bring this mess about, other than by voting in that murderous scum-bag TB.

The big parties are already 'pinching ideas' - notice how many are wearing Green clothes nowadays? But no real change is going to happen while it's still First Past The Post politics, is it?

I have been arguing that it could be done and that given our present circumstances now would be a good time to give it a go.
BUT
First things first...we have this election to deal with. Who knows there may be many a Portillo moment to savour.
It's 'business as usual' from the big-three. That is why it is such a hard sell.
The game changer is the turnout. If that goes up it could be anybodys race. Yet the professionals presumably know their stuff. Ten or so days to go and the more the fear is felt by the politicians the better. Each vote should come at a high price, this time maybe.
