The Pastor Letting Go

After a lifetime on the move,
you've found your final sinecure,
comfortable with your flock.

I discover you, old friend,
among your leatherbound books.
You delight to sniff their musk.

You sit with your steaming cocoa
warm in your plum carpet slippers
as we converse by the log fire.



We avoid the sarin of politics.
Still, our old aggravations linger,
like a grain of sand in an oyster.
