The new Amsterdam at Liverpool?

Deprived of its unique dockland waters Liverpool
becomes a Venice without canals, just another city, no
longer of special interest to anyone, least of all the
tourist. Would we visit a modernised Venice of filled in
canals to view its modern museum describing
how it once was?

I live on Ivanhoe Road which is adjacent to Lark Lane and I wouldn't mind any more bars opening along the lane. There is enough shops with enough diversity here and there are currently a couple of empty premises that would lend themselves well to bars. In respect of it being a residential area, you really don't hear too much noise along the lane or in our road at night.
The Moon and Pea deli that has recently opened has proved that individual shops can thrive along Lark Lane and has been a great addition and one thing we do have along here is that people support the local shops.
An area that would give me more concern regarding bars would be Allerton Road, where it seems that every single premises that becomes vacant is opening as a bar not long after!
I've known and loved the lane for years. Had many flats in the area (or girlfriends did), was the resident leather craftsman at 'Curiouser and Curiouser' (anyone remember that?) and was involved in the wholefood co-op that started in the police station- later moving to Lodge Lane.
No trendy bars back then. I remember Keith's first opening. (isn't it high time that place had a coat of paint?)
Not living round there now but get back as often as I can and feel the place is looking pretty good. The exception being the Albert- we recently visited to check out the park improvements (magnificent!), sat in the pub's garden there for old time's sake and thought it was an absolute dump. The ale was horrible too.

At the rate pubs are closing these days, the residents should be more than pleased they are bucking the trend.
Goodmorning each.
I read in todays Telegraph (online) that one 'actor' in this saga got a threat to his home (arson) and a threat to kill because he is part of the 'fight-back' against the expansion of drinking establishments.
Hardly small-beer.
What's the world coming to.
