The Mersey Tunnel Tour

I seem to remember either reading or hearing of a story about a vehicle (Morris pickup comes to mind) that ran under the tunnel for use by maintenance gangs, and that in later years when a (gas?) pipe was run through, the suspension on this vehicle was jacked up to straddle it.
Or was it in one of my dreams.

You are quite correct. That's something they told us about when we went on the tour.
