Of course they would unless of course it was in Manchester, then it would be suggested they add a few more storeys to the height. English Heritage in Englands North West is Manchester based and Mancunians predominate in that organization. Funny, don't you think, that English Heritage had little problem giving the thumbs up to the abominations of the Crowne Plaza Hotel and the student accomodation on Skelhorne Street? Both of these developments wouldn't be out of place in a Russian Soviet era development.

Imagine what Liverpool would have looked like today if there had been a Manchester based English Heritage at the time William Brown Street, St. Georges Hall, Pier Head and the Anglican Cathedral had been proposed.

Also, John, it's not the height of the car park they have issue with, it's the number of spaces! Pathetic!
Who was the greatest of them all?
    Little, Curly, Alan Ball.

    Default Historic dock wall

Waterways, you seem to know a lot about the dock area.
I think they're wrong when they describe this section by princess dock as being built by French Napoleonic War prisoners.
I think they've mixed it up with the white stone wall further down the dock road that looks like crazy paving, very intricate.
This part is just red brick, ugly and like a Berlin Wall on Liverpool's business district.
    Can you clear this up?

You are right. It is not that attractive while the white stone further up is. The French also built the walls around Wapping Docks too, if my memory is correct - lots of this was demolished.

The spaces appear excessive. the volume alone will make a car park big building. I can't see the need for car parks, unless they dig down which mean it will be wet.

Reading CABE's synopsis of this proposal, it does seem that their main reason for not liking it is, indeed, the dock wall.
They say that it is not part of a tall buildings cluster because it is seperated from the others by the wall-my reason exactly for wanting it bulldozed.
I don't think this part is listed, in fact I'm going to check.
This madness of keeping us back to the benefit of Manchester has got to be stopped.

The Dock wall is potected at this point. Developments can go around it. The odd hole in it here and there will not be so much of a problem.

Forget Manchester, concentrate on Liverpool and the Wirral.

Most of the people involved in CABE and English Heritage who are sabotaging almost every major scheme in Liverpool with their pathetic, petty sniping are based in Manchester.
This fact can't be ignored. Its time for everyone to take their head out of the sand on this. we are losing massive investment to that city's benefit thanks to a very small group of people with dodgy agendas.
I'm certain the vast majority of Liverpool people want all of these projects to go ahead but the embarrassing list of schemes that are collapsing due to interferening busybodies grows longer by the week.
Why are the majority who want to drag the city forward constantly ignored by our planners who only seem to listen to the backwards brigade?

The dock wall at Princes Dock was the first Dock wall dating from 1821. For over 100 years the docks were open to the public and they could walk the quays - like at parts of Birkenhead. This meant there could be theft from the warehouses on the quays, of which there was plenty. The warehouses were privately owned. The Dock wall offered a sealed secutre dock estate. Eventualy the dock warehouse became owned by the MDHB with most being transit sheds and all Liverpool docks had policed exits and entrances.
