I believe that this incident, caused anti-Jewish reaction across the country! The jewish community around London rd/Seymour st was attacked, and many businesses,mainly tailors,had thier windows put in,etc!
The only remnant of that community, that's left, is the green-tiled frontage of the butchers shop, P.Galkof,a little further up,in Pembroke place! (There is some work being done to save this,and it has it's own website, just type in P.Galkof)

My view of those days in south Liverpool is that lots of different gangs existed. The kids would make up a lot of the incidents and perceived threats. I had by then developed a social conscience yet I would still often mix with a large group of lads. You would never all agree on any single issue. A similar incident occurred around that time at St Patrick?s church the Dion club held dances and the local kids had a run in with kids from Granby and Parly. There were a couple of nights of disturbances and then it was broken up by the police. Another flash point was when they built the new Netherley estate and the kids were inventing an identity for themselves the perceived threat was that a gang from Halewood was about to descend on them. These incidents could attract large numbers of kids. I mean large numbers too you could get up to 300 kids arriving at a given place. That was a trend of the seventies. Actual violence was rare and most congregations got broken up by the police. The difference with the one referred to in this topic is there was a political dimension to it. The people who objected to the ethnic community being housed tried to harness the trend of large gangs to their own ends. I went there with a few of my mates on the 86 listened to the stories realized what it was about had a word with the lads and we got the bus home.

At 55 I was a teenager in that area and as far as Liverpool 8 goes I know great deal more than you.Funny thing I never stole cars like others did I couldn't drive, so I must have caught the bus home. I may have had a ticket I may not.

The owner Rob has had battles with LCC and English Heritage to have it listed, he is a member of the Liverpool Heritage/Historical society.

Was I? thought I was answering to a thread on on the manipulation of kids over a housing dispute. Regards Liverpool 8 so was I born there. And lived there long enough to understand the problems. As a sociologist I have my own perspectives.

To be honest Steve, i'm not sure if he's related by marriage to them or how he got involved with trying to save it, I think he owns the next door property too.

Although I'm an Anfielder, I had friends and family in L8 and was around there a lot. I'm the same age as you and I remember the Parly/Granby V Park rd spats.

I remember the 2 factions quite cleary and my pals from around the Parly area didn't venture down Park rd - and probably vice versa.

I work in Liverpool 8 - I love the community..............sad to say that the invisible line between Toxteth and Dingle continues to run along Park Road. I know this for a fact. Unfortunately people remain racist towards each other - black and white..........and it's not just teenagers.

I was born and brought up there. The border was Upper Warwick St/Windsor St, not Park Rd.

Back in the 60's and 70's the border was indeed Windsor St, and further on up, to include Admiral St. There may have been some 'progress' in the mean time, but it certainly isn't spectacular.
So I'll take Burkhilly's contemporary take on it - sad as it is.
